As we celebrate Refugee Friendship Month, we want to give special attention to the global refugee crisis. June 20 is an internationally recognized day where communities honour refugees around the world, celebrating the strength and courage of people who have escaped persecution and conflict by fleeing their home country.
It's an opportunity to learn, to pray, and to discern how the Spirit might be inviting you to respond.
Learn
The Christian humanitarian aid organization, World Relief, has compiled an excellent resource with 20 ways to learn more about refugees. From book recommendations, to articles, videos, and more, consider setting aside some time to learn about the global refugee crisis on your own or with your life group.
In addition, here are a handful of podcasts to inspire your next jog or commute to work.
Along the Way: Hosted by Richard Belcham, who has worked with refugee claimants in British Columbia
The Better Samaritan Podcast: Two Christian reporters discuss reporting on the Afghan Refugee Crisis
World Vision Podcast: This edition of the World Vision podcast features a conversation with Eugene Cho, about the refugee crisis in the Middle East
Pray
I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all people.
1 Timothy 2:1-2
Would you consider blocking off some time in your day to pray?
