June 20 is World Refugee Day – a time to honour refugees around the world and recognize their strength, courage, and resilience.

Today, more than 43.7 million people are refugees, with another 8 million seeking asylum. Every day, more and more families are forced to flee their homes because of persecution, conflict, violence, and human rights violations.

As we reflect on the global refugee crisis, may we lift our brothers and sisters in prayer. Let us remember that Jesus himself was a refugee, taken to Egypt to escape the political threat of Herod (Matthew 2:13-15).

Let us pray:
-for injustice and oppression to end
-for wars to cease
-and for compassion to shape our hearts and communities.

May the God of peace have mercy on all his children:
Bless all who seek refuge on this earth.
Meet their needs for safety and for home.
Move the hearts of your people to show them welcome.
Cause wars to cease and bring justice to the nations—
so  that no one will need to flee again.

Since 2016, Tenth Church has welcomed refugee claimants into friendship, housing, and a community of hope.
