Winter Shelter at Tenth

As the weather turns cooler, many preparations have been in motion to open up the Winter Shelter at Tenth Church in Mt Pleasant. The Shelter at Tenth is a labour of love carried out in partnership with Lookout Housing and Health Society.

The Shelter will open from November 1, 2024 - April 15, 2025, seven days a week, providing safe refuge and hospitality to people who need it most. 

We invite you to pray for:

• safety of guests who find respite at the Shelter, and for people who remain in the streets throughout the winter
• guests at the Shelter to connect with Lookout case management to find longer term solutions to being precariously housed
• the overdose crisis that is gripping our province
• loneliness and social isolation that persists
• health and well-being for Shelter staff who work through the night
• guests to experience feeling cherished and beloved through the hospitality of shelter staff, nutritious homemade soups lovingly prepared by volunteers, warmth in a well maintained building
• friendships to form over time through a shared meal at Oasis Cafe
• for hearts to soften and for the Spirit to move in unimaginable ways through the ministry of the  shelter

Jesus said, “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me…  Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ (Matthew 25:35-36;40)
